The Golf Committee invites and welcomes everyone to join the community in fun and innovative events. We have worked hard to develop events that make it possible for all members, regardless of handicap, to participate and have fun.

The crowning tournament of the year is The Calcutta in September. If you have never attended the Friday night auction, you have been missing one of the truly fun nights in the hills. It starts with a great dinner followed by presentations of awards and drawing of teams. Then the fun really begins with the auctioning of the teams.

It does not cost an arm and a leg to play in The Calcutta . You can designate the monetary level of participation that is comfortable for you. The Sunday tournament is one that you and others will talk about for years to come. You owe it to yourself to experience the thrill of playing in The Calcutta !

These HAH tournaments are sanctioned by the Golf Committee and Board of Trustees.

Members must be current on assessments to play. Family guests and social guests may play as long as their sponsor member is current on assessments. Social guests must pay guest fee.
CALCUTTA is open to members and family guests. All players must have a HAH handicap. Handicap fee is $10, and should be paid by June 1st . A minimum of 10 nine hole scores is required to play in the Calcutta. Please include your name and lot number on the envelope when paying your fee. There is a wooden box in the clubhouse for your fee and scorecards.
USGA rules apply unless superseded by local HAH rules.

The Hide-A-Way Hills Memorial Golf Tournament

The first Hide-A-Way Hills Golf Committee Event of the Spring will be held Sunday May 18 at 9 am with "The Memorial", an 18 hole scramble.The Memorial is held each spring at Hide-A-Way Hills Golf Course in honor of one of the Members of the HAH Golf Community that has recently passed away.This year's honorees are Joe and Corol Doody, long time Members and avid golfers who lost their battles with cancer. The scramble is open to all Members and their guests. Teams will be drawn from flights of A, B, C, and D players. The $25 entry fee includes beverages during the tournaments as well as a pulled pork dinner with beverages in the Golf Pavilion after the tournament.Not A Golfer? Don't let that stop you from enjoying "The Memorial". A $5 fee will be charged to non players who wish to eat. Please sign-up in the Clubhouse prior to the tournament if possible to allow The Golf Committee to plan for the food and drinks.

Hide-A-Way Hills Retains the Hills Cup!

THE HILLS CUP

The Hills Cup is a match play event pitting 12 of Windy Hills Golf Club's best players against 12 of Hide-A-Way Hills Golf Club's players in a scratch match play format.

Sunday September 30 the 2nd annual Hills Cup Tournament was played. In the morning matches began at Windy Hills, in Rockbridge, Windy Hills won 9½ points while Hide-A-Way Hills only came away with 2½. At start of the afternoon when play changed to H-A-H Golf Course, the H-A-H team found itself with an almost insurmountable task of needing to score 9½ points to retain the trophy. In a stunning upset, the H-A-H team won 9 and tied 2 of the 12 matches to win 12½ to 11 ½ score their second victory in the short two year history of this event.

Players for the Hide-A-Way Hills team were Greg Brown, Joe Gillespie, Joe Hibbler, Scott Martin, Tom Mckahan, Jim Mcnabb, Bill Mcnulty, Rob Milburn,Bob Mtjoy, Steve Petros, Jason Walters, and Jim Whitt. They were led by their captain, Nick Paniccia.

Players for the Windy Hills team were Taylor Junge, Brian Hughes, Chad Slack, Brian Enderle, Rick Dane, Cullon Rutter, Grant Carter, Sam Eggleston, Cole Huffman, JR Yates, Ron Fannon, and Time Pitts. They were led by their Captain, Larry Gerstner.

Golf Community Appreciation Night

Friday night the Golf Committee Gave a big THANK YOU to the Golf Community. We held a par three tournament and attracted 80 participants. About two dozen additional people joined in for the fried chicken dinner afterword. The golf, dinner, and beverages were all provided by the Committee to acknowledge the hard work and contributions made by our members and their guests this season.

Rules

1) Shirts must be worn at all times.

2) Only persons playing the regular game of golf, and Hide-A-Way Hills Club employees, are permitted on the course. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult, and playing the regular game of golf.

3) Any group of more than eight (8) guests (two foursomes) must get the General Manager's permission prior to use of the course.

4) Dogs, horses, and vehicles, other than golf carts or maintenance equipment are not permitted on the course.

5) Slow matches and players looking for balls are expected to let faster matches or players play through.

6) Cutting in is forbidden; players playing the full course have the right of way.

7) No more than four persons per group are permitted when course is open to all play. Foursomes shall have the right of way over all other groups and singles when course is open to all play.

8) Putting greens are fragile and should be treated with care. Shoes that will not damage greens must be worn. Non-players must stay off greens. Repair all ball marks. Do not drag your feet on greens and do not pull your cart across greens.

9) Practicing on the greens or tees is forbidden. Balls must be teed up on all tee shots.

10) If you play out of a sand trap, be sure to rake your footprints and leave the trap smooth for the next player. Do not pull or drive carts through traps.

11) Replace all divots in fairways.

12) Do not litter course with cans, bottles, paper etc.

13) Each player must have his or her own set of golf clubs.

14) Motorised golf carts must NOT come closer than 15 feet to any green, except when on paved cart paths. Carts may be banned from the course and/or course closed due to weather conditions, at the discretion of the General Manager.

15) Social guests and short-term tenants must be accompanied by the member. Permanent guests, family guests, and long-term tenants may golf without the member present, so long as they possess a current applicable family guest or long-term tenant card. Member shall be responsible for the conduct of guests and any damages incurred.

16) A posted fee will be charged for social guests and short-term tenants and they must be accompanied by a member.

17) Members and their guests must sign the register at the Clubhouse prior to playing golf.

18) No alcoholic beverages may be taken in, and no opened alcoholic beverages may be taken out of the Golf Clubhouse or upper or lower deck of the Clubhouse that would violate the Club's liquor permit.

19) You must be 18 years of age, or older, to rent a golf cart from the Clubhouse, and operate that rented cart on the course. You must be 16 years of age, or older, to operate a member-owned golf cart.

20) No activity other than regular golf or other Club-approved activities, shall be permitted on the course.

21) Hide-A-Way Hills maintenance Crew has the right of way over all play. If this right of way is ignored it will be necessary to close course to all play during maintenance periods.

Hole number one is a challenging short par four with a slight dogleg left. A good drive will leave a short pitch to a hard green protected by a lipped bunker in front and out of bounds behind.

Hole number three is a par four with a sharp right dogleg. An accurate long tee shot over the corner of the woods that are out of bounds can leave a short pitch to a green that slopes left to right.

Hole number five is a par three with a green that slopes right to left.The length as well as trees to the left and rough sloping to out of bounds on the right make it a tough hole.

Hole number six is one of the toughest par threes a player will find anywhere. A large tree to the left, a pond in the center and out of bounds woods on the right demand an accurate tee shot. A small green, with a hard left to right slope makes for a challenging putt from almost any length.

Hole number seven is a par four dogleg to the left. With a fairway that slopes hard to the left out of bounds and a tree line on the right this hole calls for a well placed tee shot. The green is protected by a grass bunker on the front left and sand bunkers on the front right and left side.

Hole number eight is a straight away par four, a hole to let out the shaft. A good tee shot will leave a short chip to a green that slopes from back to front. A long second shot will find a bunker to the rear and a green sloping away.

Hole number nine is a par five sharp dogleg left. While the hole is short, and can be made shorter with an accurate long tee shot over the woods, it is not as easy as the yardage suggests. A maple tree and a group of pines call for a carefully placed tee shot and a sloped fairway with trees at the top and out of bounds at the bottom call for an accurate second. The green is protected by a large bunker, with a high lip, at the front left and has a deceiving right to left break when putting.

Sunday Morning Scrambles

After a couple of years of trials with "imprompto" Sunday morning scrambles, the Hide-A-Way Hills Board of Trustees has approved a shot gun start, meaning that all players may begin simultaneously on the various holes. This approval will allow all players to start at the same time, clearing the course quicker allowing other golfers use of the course sooner.Scramble players are drawn in an effort to evenly match teams keeping the focus on golf fun, so scambles are not only for the serious golfer. Members and their guests are always welcome to join in on the fun with the Sunday morning "impromptu" crowd. Currently the group meets at 10:00 until the opening of the clubhouse. At that time, Scrambles will begin at 9:00. Out of courtesy, if any member should choose not to participate, and begin a game before the start of the Scramble, participants in the Scramble will leave one hole open in front of the players.

Member Guest Golf Fundraiser
The Hide-A-Way Hills Golf Committee held the biggest fundraiser of the year, The 9th Annual Member Guest Tournament, on Friday June 6th. 25 teams turned out for a day of great weather, fun golf, ample tasty food, and ice cold beverages. Thanks to the Players, the Hole Sponsors, and the many volunteers the Committee was able to raise over $6,000.00 that will be used for Golf Course improvements.

Hide-A-Way Hills currently has three Golf Leagues

Wednesday Night Mens League.

The Course is closed for Mens League tee off From 4:00 PM. till 6:00 PM on Wednesday nights. The league is open to Members, Family Guests, and Permanent Guests. The league generally starts in mid April and runs through the first part of September. Ten 5 person teams are drawn from players with handicaps ranging from scratch to the mid twenties to form a competitive match for players of all abilities.

Monday Night Mixed League

The course is closed for Mixed League Shotgun Start at 6:00 PM Monday nights. Mixed League is open to Members and their guests, Family Guests, and Permanent Guests. The League generally starts at the beginning of may and runs till the end of August. Currently there are ten 2 person teams, but the League hopes to expand next year. Players form their own teams and are paired with different opponents each week to provide a fun social golf atmosphere.

Thursday Ladies League

The course is closed for Shotgun Start at 9:00 AM on Thursdays for the Ladies to play their various formats.

Hide-A-Way Hills Golf Course

Hide-A-Way Hills Golf Course is one of our most popular amenities. If only looking at the score card one would think that it would be a very easy course on which to play. After all , it's only 2,344 yards long which is about 550 yards shorter than the average course. The longest par 4 is only 340 yards. 340 would more than likely be the shortest at various other courses.
However, once you tee it up, you'll find you're on one of the most challenging "short courses" in Central Ohio. A player will experience sloped fairways where a ball is often either drastically above or below your feet, while the crowned greens allow players very few straight putts. Because of these challenges, many say you can play day after day never having to hit the same shot twice. Members of Hide-A-Way Hills do not pay any greens fees to golf and tee times are not necessary.

1)To provide means for continual improvement to the golf course to enhance the quality of play in the areas of physical environment and visual aesthetics.

2)Work with the General Manager and course maintenance personnel to maintain and improve the golf course playing conditions.

3)Provide means to fund improvements to the golf course and facilities in addition to the annual budget.

4)Provide an annual schedule of tournaments and events for the enjoyment of all members and guests.

5)Encourage members and guests alike to respect the golf course and understand and obey the rules.

6)Provide means by which all members can volunteer to help maintain and improve the golf course on workdays and on other occasions.

7)Provide and maintain a Memorial Garden for deceased members.

Par Three Tournament

After discussion regarding the cancellation of the Night Golf Tournament scheduled for Friday July 20, the Golf Committee decided that the event should be replaced for reasons of safety and potential problems that could arise. In its place will be a Par Three Scramble Tournament with Pot Luck Dinner following play.A $5.00 entrance fee will be collected at sign up at 6:30 and play will begin at 7:00 PM. Tee areas will be moved from the normal sites to new temparary locations to make every hole a Par Three. The format will be a Two Person Scramble. The lowest hadicapped player will be teamed with the highest handicap along with the second lowest with the second highest untill all the two person teams are drawn. The tournament is open to all Hide-A-Way Hills Members and their guests. All fees collected will be paid out as prize money. I hope to see a large turnout for this event as it should be another fun time at the Golf Course for all.
